One of the most important things these days is to find a reliable trail horse. Over the weekend I had the privilege to meet Flash. My friend has Flash on trial and has nearly decided to buy him. There are certain attributes that make a great safe trail horse.
It seems to be getting harder to find the perfect horse. Flash is from an endurance home. Therefore, he has had a lot of experience on the trail. He is also gorgeous. I was lucky enough to have a photoshoot with Flash to model our Innovative Equestrian Bridle. He was perfect because of his beautiful golden color. He has a finer type of head so I used the smaller noseband attachment to fit the Innovative Equestrian bridle. It fit him perfectly. He was trained bitless as well so he goes both bitted and bitless. Because the Pee Wee is such a soft bit, it’s perfect for this combination of bitted or bitless.
After the photoshoot, I was lucky to have a ride on Flash. I like to do groundwork and do lunging before riding. That’s where the Innovative Equestrian Bridle was so handy, because of the halter clip I could do all the groundwork by clipping the lunge line onto the Bridle’s halter clip. It made it easy without having to swap to a halter.
Some attributes that I look for in a trail horse are the following:
1. Calm temperament;
2. Friendly, one that likes to be around people;
3. Good hooves, to go up and over the mountains;
4. Easy to tie up;
5. Get’s along with other horses;
6. Willingness to be challenged and handle the terrain.
Flash ticked all the boxes, he had such a sweet disposition. When I got on Flash, he had soft aids and soft nature. It was lovely to canter around the arena and to feel safe on a young horse. I certainly gave the thumbs up to my friend about buying him. He was a little trooper. Maybe I am biased though as he is the same breed as my Tally, Australian Whaler cross Arab.
